In 2011 Jon Michael founded Simarian Research, a boutique asset management firm based on the values of independent thought, accessible advising, and agile investing. Jon Michael takes great pleasure in developing relationships with his clients to create the optimal portfolio based on individual needs, dreams, and risk tolerance. Jon Michael has spent his career conducting in-depth company and industry research, along with global macroeconomic trend forecasting, to build portfolios best suited to each client. Jon Michael holds the conviction that his fiduciary duty is to the client first, always.

For 11 years Jon Michael personally managed the Simarian Opportunities Portfolio, the Simarian Blue Chip Select Portfolio, the Simarian Large-Cap Growth Portfolio, and sub-advised for several hedge funds. He manages investment products with a disciplined and consistent proprietary investment process that includes fundamental and quantitative analysis, drawing on industry relationships, and financial modeling. He is a student of stock market and economic history which informs each investment thesis and market projection.

Before founding Simarian Research, Jon Michael spent 10 years with Bank of America’s Columbia Management Group. As a Senior Portfolio Manager, he co-managed the $1 billion Columbia Small Cap Growth II fund with Daniele Donahoe. During Jon Michael’s tenure with Columbia, the Fund became a top-quartile performer vs. peers in Morningstar’s Small Cap Growth Peer group of over 400 funds, over a 5-year performance span.

Jon Michael began his career as Senior Analyst covering the Staffing and Online Employment Recruiting Industry at J.C. Bradford & Company (now UBS Group) in Nashville and Associate Analyst at Morgan Keegan & Company (now Raymond James) in Memphis, TN.

Jon Michael is a frequent speaker at events along the east coast on topics such as investing in volatile markets, launching an investment firm, and raising capital as an emerging manager. He has won multiple peer awards for stock-picking and market forecasting.

Jon Michael recharges outdoors, especially by trail running. He and his wife, Sarah, are active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Jon Michael enjoys travel, Marvel movies and Magic the Gathering with his three teenagers.
